Media Center

The Library/Media Center of the First United Methodist Church has "OPEN" hours on Thursday afternoons between 3:00 and 5:00 pm and Sunday mornings from 9:00 am through 12:30 pm (Located in Room W-06)

We serve the church in many areas, including an inventory of books available for check-out, which range in interest from children's, youth, Bibles, theology, prayer, devotions, family & group needs, Christian growth, fiction, biographies, reference books, etc. Also, many children's, grown-ups, and family videos are available, as well as a few audios. Currently, the library has begun to acquire a selection of CD's and DVD's.

Two out-reach programs of the Library are a book discussion group (BOOK WORMS), which has met for many years on the first Tuesday of every month at 2:00 pm in the library (all are welcome!); and the annual Summer Reading Program for the children. The Library also holds an OPEN HOUSE almost every year in the fall, and sponsors other activities as they come up.

We invite everyone to come and visit us, browse around, ask questions, read awhile, and perhaps check something out! We are always open to suggestions and constructive criticism. Please call Buena Brown 723-8102 or Peggy Johnson 723-8376 for more information.

Library Notes

Thanks to your generosity, the Church Library/Media Center again has working computers—a primary computer and a backup.

We have a "new" author in the library to tell you about - not new in writing, as she has written books for several years, but new to US! Her name is Karen Kingsbury and she writes Christian fiction, mostly about people in modern times who are going through great traumas and ordeals in their lives, which eventually lead them to faith in Christ. I believe Karen's current popularity is as a result of a book she wrote in 2005, called "One Tuesday Morning", a story about 9-11 and the World Trade Center. Yes, I realize you may think that you cannot yet read anything about that heartbreaking subject, but this book really "puts you there" and brings it home to you. A very emotional experience, but one in which you learn a lot about what happened that day.

Someone has recently anonymously donated these books to our library (except for two, which we purchased), and we thank them very much! So please come by soon and look them over - hope to see you soon!

And MORE Library Notes! … The Church Library/Media Center is currently looking for new leadership, as Buena Brown will soon be retiring as chairperson of the Library Committee. (after 19 years!) It has been a WONDERFUL 19 years, as I started off as CO-chairman with Genny Stephenson, a very hard-working and respected public school librarian (Roy Allen Elementary School), Sadly, Genny passed away in December, 2000. We missed her SO much, but knew she would want her work to carry on, so with a strong and dedicated library committee we continued as best we could. We couldn't have done it without lots of extra help from many of YOU! Thank You Very Much! As the library grew, your patronage grew, too, and we also thank YOU very much!! All that support meant so much to us, and to the church.

So please prayerfully consider this calling , and call me (Buena) at 723-8102 or the church office at 723-6761 to let us know you might be interested. We'll be happy to tell you all about it - can't wait to hear from you!

Blessings to you, Buena Brown
