About First Church
At First Church we seek to "Love God and make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world." With a rich 125-year-history, we believe that God is powerfully at work, presently empowering us through the Holy Spirit to make the Kingdom of God a reality in our midst. We seek to share the love of God and serve our Lord, Jesus Christ through Worship, Intentional Discipleship and Spiritual Growth, Mission and Fellowship.
The Apostles' Creed, Traditional Version
I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic (universal) church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
The central act of the people of God is worship. Everything we do is centered in experiencing God’s healing grace in worship. Prayer, music, scripture, and the sacraments are present when we gather as the community of faith. Through worship, God prepares us for mission in the world.
Discipleship and Spiritual Growth
Life change happens when we gather in small groups, studying the Bible, praying, growing in relationship with one another and with God. Through small groups, Sunday School Classes, Ministry Groups, Accountability Groups, we connect to God and one another.
Jesus calls us to share the Good News with the Greater Melbourne/Palm Bay community and beyond. We participate in larger community events to connect with all people. Relieving suffering is God’s love made real. Local mission, domestic and international opportunities in Cuba and Haiti help us live into the call on our lives to reach out to the least, the lost, and the lonely.
The Holy Spirit works in the community through fellowship, caring for one another during times of pain and times of joy. When we spend time with each other, our love builds and invites others to experience real community through the local church. From our coffee hour on Sunday mornings in the Celebrations Cafe to special events on and off campus, we seek to connect and know one another as sisters and brothers in Christ.
